New Mexico State running back transfer Makhilyn Young has committed to Vanderbilt out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

Young began to have a more significant impact on the field in 2023, though he was not an every-down back. Still, there was a clear ramp in production.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound prospect played in 11 games and logged 28 carries for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught one pass for a yard.

He’ll now join a Vanderbilt team looking for more production out of its skill position players.

Prior to enrolling at New Mexico State, Makhilyn Young was ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 1,756 overall recruit in the nation in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

He also checked in as the No. 120 running back in the class and the No. 251 overall player from the state of Texas, hailing from Midland (TX) Lee.

Vanderbilt lands from Texas A&M standout

Former Texas A&M and New Mexico State standout Eli Stowers has committed to Vanderbilt out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos.
