There will be baseball played on Saturday night in the Coral Gables Regional. A lengthy weather delay has hampered the MiamiTexas matchup but now, the all-clear has been given for a brand-new start time. First pitch at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field will now take place at 8:35 pm. ET.

Overall, about an hour and a half delay before things will get underway.

“Almost time to get this thing going! First pitch is set for 8:35 p.m.,” the official Miami Baseball account tweeted out.

Originally, the game was scheduled to begin around 6 p.m. ET. Lightning was in the area before the Miami grounds crew had to part the tarp on the field. Rain has been a factor all weekend, with Friday’s game between Texas and Louisiana also getting delayed.

Even with a new start time, there is a chance the weather could continue to impact the game. Thunderstorms have been projected in Coral Gables throughout most of the night. Everyone will be hoping they stay away and some baseball can be played.

A long night is potentially on the cards for both teams. However, this is the NCAA Tournament and you would expect nothing less.

Fans are still expected to show out, supporting the hometown Hurricanes. Working through some rain is nothing new for them, especially during baseball season.

Once the game does get begin, both teams will be looking to continue their respective positive momentum. Miami and Texas have long traditions in baseball, with a trip to Omaha being the expectation on a yearly basis. Unfortunately, only one can advance this season.

Miami, Texas set to play in important 1-0 game

When the full field of 64 was released, a potential Miami-Texas matchup was one circled across the country. Two of college baseball’s most historic programs, facing off in the NCAA Tournament is going to be viewed as must-watch television.

Texas took down Louisiana on Friday, while Miami was victorious against four-seed Maine. The Hurricanes had a relatively comfortable 9-1 win, while the Longhorns scraped by with a 4-2 result. Both of those were expected and now we wait for the Saturday matchup to take place.

Louisiana was victorious earlier in the day, waiting for the loser of Miami-Texas. Whoever winds up on the winning end will be in a great position to advance to a Super Regional. Just one more win will be required while needing two defeats to be taken down.
