NEWS: PG Jaylen Cross commits to Charlotte; a full scouting breakdown
Jaylen Cross, the No. 128 ranked player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, has committed to Charlotte and head coach Aaron Fearne On3 is told.
The 6-foot-3 guard claimed offers throughout the process from programs like Wake Forest, Saint Louis, and South Carolina.
Cross is Charlotte’s first commitment for the 2025 recruiting cycle. Let’s dive into what Jaylen Cross will bring to the 49ers.
Jaylen Cross scouting report
What Jaylen Cross brings to the table is defense. The long-armed, 6-foot-3 guard is one of the best perimeter defenders in this class. He has natural twitchy athleticism that pairs well with his length and his ‘want-to’. He can switch on or off the ball, showcase excellent anticipation on that end of the floor. And he has no problem sticking his nose in there to do the dirty work. In the multiple settings I have watched Cross – camp, travel, high school – he has no problem taking on the oppositions best perimeter player, and giving them fits.

Offensively, Cross is at his best as a connector. He is comfortable with the ball in his hands in the half-court and he moves the ball willingly to teammates. Cross is at his best getting downhill and attacking the rim. He can be quick and decisive with his first-step and make a play while putting two feet in the paint. He is going to need to clean up his game a little on the move. There is some processing stuff with him, toggling between times of being a go-to scorer and being a lead guard. With that said, there are a lot of moments where he simply makes plays for his team.
While Cross is at his best attacking downhill, his jump shot has come along over the past few months. He still needs to clean up his footwork and his shot load, but he is developing more confidence in it off the catch. There is a real connecting ability with Cross, elevating the play of those around him, not doing things that he is not able. Defensively, the upside is big as he is already producing on that end of the floor.
