Geno Smith on Ohio State freshman Jeremiah Smith: 'He's going to be the best receiver ever'
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has been around numerous talented receivers throughout his NFL career. The veteran believes Jeremiah Smith will end up being better than all of them and everyone else who has ever played the position.
Geno Smith recently spoke with CBS Sports about his younger cousin Jeremiah Smith and his expectations for the former five-star recruit.
“I’ve seen a lot of great receivers and I’ve also had the chance to watch JJ since he was about 10 years old,” Geno Smith said. “He’s going to be the best receiver ever. I really believe that.”
Jeremiah Smith has 11 catches for 211 yards and three touchdowns through the first two games of his college career. He is averaging more than 19 yards per reception.

Geno Smith was tuned in for Ohio State’s season opener when Jeremiah caught six passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
“Man, I was in the house, I was watching the whole game. And he caught that first touchdown, man, I jumped right out of my seat,” Geno said. “The whole house was going crazy, man. And it was good to see that. I thought he had a heck of a game.”
Jeremiah Smith did start off the game with a drop, but he quickly rebounded and showed just what his potential is. If the freshman is already this good, it’s hard to argue with Geno that the sky is the limit.
“I thought he started out a little slow. I know he wants to catch that first one. He would’ve scored on that one, too. Let’s go JJ,” Geno said. “But great debut. I thought he did great. He was born with the talent. But he’s putting the work in and he’s ready. He’s ready right now.”
