The morning after his son – Flower Mound (Texas) High four-star quarterback Nick Evers decommitted from FloridaDerrick Evers took to social media to explain what went into the decision.

He also took time to fire back at critics that questioned Nick Evers’ move.

In a tweet Thursday morning, Evers said his son just didn’t feel right after meeting with new Florida head coach Billy Napier.

“My son, Nick, after meeting his new head coach for the very first time decided the chemistry was not there,” Derrick Evers said. “He had a well-defined vision for the program that included Nick. I can tell he’s committed to winning championships at UF.

“He’s a good man with great values and I believe will bring a new culture to the program.”

Derrick Evers said he also wanted to clear the air about the reasons why Nick Evers backed off the pledge.

“Nick didn’t leave because of the possibility of adding quarterbacks,” Evers said. “That always happens, and he embraces competition. My family builds, not tears down others. Nick was decisive the moment he met who inherited him.”

Evers said he is also frustrated at the reaction his son received after the decision was made.

“He had the courage to do what he needed to do, knowing there would be backlash,” Evers said. “As an adult, I knew a segment of folks would create their own narrative and that’s fine. But as a man, those that are threatening him or my wife simply because his direction found with newfound information can direct ALL of that toward ME!”

Oklahoma makes move for Nick Evers

According to On3’s Gerry Hamilton, the Oklahoma Sooners have made a move in Nick Evers’ recruitment.

The Sooners, including newly hired offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, had an in-home visit with Evers on Wednesday night where they offered Evers a scholarship, Hamilton reported.

Hamilton also confirmed that the two groups also set up an official visit for Evers to go to Norman this weekend.

The Sooners do not have a quarterback recruit in the 2022 cycle.

The On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that uses all four major recruiting services, ranks Evers as the nation’s No. 125 overall prospect, the No. 8 quarterback, and the No. 24 player in the state of Texas for 2022.

On3 ranks him higher as the No. 66 overall player and No. 6 quarterback in the 2022 On300 ranking.
