The undisputed No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025, Aaliyah Chavez, has committed to Oklahoma, she announced.

“The most important thing is to make sure I’m in a place where I have high energy,” Chavez told On3 this summer. “I don’t want a coach that’s low energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time [I am]. I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years… I want them to be there all four years. Because that’s what I’m getting recruited off of, right? I want to be there all four years.”

The 5-foot-9 point guard from Lubbock (Texas) Monterey High School was the final ranked uncommitted prospect in the class, and some consider her a generational talent.

“It’s not too far from home, and I love coach Jennie [Baranczyk],” Chavez told On3 this summer. She’s the head coach that I usually talk to. She’s very young, and I like how they just play basketball. They don’t try to force anything – no sets. They just go out there and play basketball.”

Chavez is able to score at will, dominate the glass, pass the ball efficiently and can defend with the best of them. Earlier this season, the 2023-24 Texas Girls’ Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year nearly scored 100 points total in back-to-back games. As a junior, Chavez averaged 35.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

After the 2023-2024 season, Chavez was named the Texas Girls’ Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year. It was a season where she broke school records for points in a season, points in a career and most 3-pointers in a game. She also shattered the school record with 57 points in a game.
