Brent Dearmon, an Alabama native and former offensive coordinator at Kansas, Middle Tennessee State and Florida Atlantic, has been named the new head coach at North Alabama. Dearmon most recently served as offensive coordinator for FAU this season.

After bouncing around various jobs in the state of Alabama — including serving as an analyst at Auburn — Dearmon served as offensive coordinator at Arkansas Tech for three seasons before spending one season as the head coach at his alma mater, NAIA Bethel. From there, he made a jump to FBS Division 1 when he took a job at Kansas for the 2019 season as a “senior offensive consultant” before taking on the OC role in 2020.

After a year each at MTSU and FAU, Dearmon is now the head coach at the Division 2 power.

“My family and I are thrilled to lead such a decorated program and university into a new era,” Dearmon said in a press release announcing his hire. “We are going to build men of toughness, with high character and give the Shoals community a product to be proud of, on and off the field.”

Despite head coach Willie Taggart getting fired at the end of the regular season, Florida Atlantic put up big numbers on offense in 2022. The Owls finished No. 48 nationally in total offense, averaging more than 400 yards per game. FAU wasn’t too far behind in getting points on the board, either, clocking in at No. 58 nationally with 29.8 points per game.

“Brent Dearmon comes from a championship football family in the state of Alabama, brings proven results in recruiting, and is regarded as an innovative offensive mind amongst his peers,” North Alabama athletic director Josh Looney said in the release. “Brent was not only on the top of our list when this search began, but he exceeds all the expectations we were seeking in the next leader of UNA Football.”
