North Carolina expected to hire Freddie Kitchens as tight ends coach
North Carolina is expected to hire Freddie Kitchens as tight ends coach, a source tells On3.
Kitchens worked in the NFL from 2006-21, including as head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and previously as the Browns’ offensive coordinator in 2018. Kitchens, a former Alabama quarterback, also worked for teams such as the New York Giants as a tight ends coach and interim offensive coordinator (2020-21), the Arizona Cardinals as a tight ends coach, running backs coach and quarterbacks coach (2007-17) and the Dallas Cowboys as a tight ends coach (2006).
Kitchens was an analyst last season at South Carolina, which North Carolina will open its 2023 season against Sept. 2.
He’ll be the replacement for John Lilly, who left UNC for a job with the Carolina Panthers.
