Report: JaeLyn Withers returning to North Carolina for fifth season

North Carolina forward JaeLyn Withers has made a decision on his future. Withers will be returning to UNC for a fifth season of college basketball, according to Jon Rothstein.

“JaeLyn Withers tells me that he’s returning to North Carolina next season and will use his additional year of eligibility,” Rothstein posted on Twitter.

Withers averaged 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game last season, helping the Tar Heels to an excellent year, including a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Charlotte, North Carolina native started his career at Louisville, before transferring to UNC.

Withers was ranked as the No. 111 overall player in the country in the class of 2019, per the On3 Industry rankings.

As a freshman at Louisville in 2020-21, JaeLyn Withers earned freshman All-ACC honors after averaging 10.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

He saw his production dip a bit for the Cardinals in 2021-22, putting up 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Withers appeared in 29 games and made 15 starts that season.

JaeLyn Withers then played one more season at Louisville, before transferring to North Carolina. In 2022-23 for the Cardionals, Withers averaged 8.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

He then transferred to UNC where he had a solid season for the Tar Heels as North Carolina finished the year with a 29-8 record.

Former Belmont SF Cade Tyson commits to North Carolina

JaeLyn Withers will be a part of a loaded North Carolina roster in 2024-25.

Former Belmont small forward Cade Tyson committed to North Carolina, On3 has learned.

Tyson made an immediate impact for the Bruins in his true freshman season with the team, named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and a finalist for the Kyle Macy Freshman of the Year Award. Starting in 28 of his 30 game appearances where he averaged 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game for the 2022-2023 season.

This past season he started in all 30 games for Belmont, increasing his production with 16.2 points, 1.6 assists, and a team-leading 4.8 rebounds per game. Named Second-Team All-MVC following the season after posting 24 double-digit scoring games and nine games with 20 or more points.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Tyson was not ranked, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He played his HS basketball out of Monroe (N.C.) Carmel Christian.

At 6-foot-7 Tyson can play at the guard and forward spots, shooting extremely efficiently throughout his career with a 49.2% field goal percentage and a 44.6% three-point percentage from behind the arc. He’s also notably the brother of former Clemson standout Hunter Tyson, who was a First-Team All-ACC selection in his final year with the Tigers before being selected with the No. 37 overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.
