North Carolina forward Zayden High is no longer enrolled at the school, the Tar Heels announced on Tuesday. High was entering his sophomore season after playing sparingly as a true freshman. But he will not play under head coach Hubert Davis during the 2024-2025 season.

“Zayden High is no longer enrolled at North Carolina, per release,” Jon Rothstein said via X.

High appeared in 23 games last season, playing for 102 minutes. A total of 18 points were scored, coming out at an average of 0.8 per game. In 19 shot attempts, six from the field went in but none from behind the arc on eight shots. You can add in a successful six from nine at the free-throw line.

He also snagged 26 rebounds and dished out three assists.

Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 added some more information, saying High was dismissed from the program. The exact reason has not been reported on or is known quite yet.

“Zayden High was supposed to fill a key role off the bench as a do-it-all type of guy,” Goodman said via X. “Was dismissed from the program.”

High played high school basketball at Spring Branch (TX) Compass Prep, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 63 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s Jamie Shaw got a look at High’s game during North Carolina’s game against Kentucky early in the 2023-2024 season. The upside was certainly there, echoing what Goodman said in his Tuesday tweet — High would have been a nice breakout candidate for the Tar Heels this year.

“Fr. F Zayden High has a good frame and is a fluid athlete,” Shaw said. “He is playing spot minutes this year but has shown his motor and ability to affect the game. He will need to grow, but there are some intriguing pieces to his game to watch how he develops. Could be a possible breakout guy next season.”

North Carolina now has an open roster spot available to fill if they choose. Nov. 4 will be the season opener’s date, scheduled to face Elon at the Dean Dome.
