DukeNorth Carolina is a rivalry that does not sleep, no matter the sport. Sure, the men’s basketball series might be the most intense but football has gained ground over the years. North Carolina has been enjoying the gridiron matchup, especially since Mack Brown arrived in Chapel Hill.

North Carolina is on a five-game winning streak in football, with two quarterbacks leading the charge. Sam Howell was the first before Drake Maye took over and continued the success. UNC has three wins by a field goal or less plus two blowouts, experiencing all of the emotions of a rivalry game.

Well, both Howell and Maye were in the Dean Dome on Saturday night, supporting the men’s basketball program. Once North Carolina wrapped up the win, the football X account decided to add insult to injury to Duke by pointing out their poor recent football record.

The two quarterbacks were pictured together, enjoying the Carolina win. You can check out the full message here.

In three career games against Duke, Howell threw for 783 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. He was a part of the two blowout games, winning by 32 points during the 2020 season and then 31 in 2021. Those game results are certainly some of the high points of Howell’s college career.

As for Maye, he was somehow even better when facing the Blue Devils. Two games played in the rivalry resulted in 722 yards, four touchdowns, and just a single interception. North Carolina was able to squeak by in them, winning by a combined five points.

North Carolina quarterbacks potential teammates in Washington

If North Carolina fans enjoy seeing Howell and Maye together, there is a great chance the duo may get back in the same locker room. Howell was drafted by the Washington Commanders coming out of college, spending time as the starting quarterback at times. He will play under new head coach Dan Quinn, who was recently hired by the franchise.

But Maye could be on his way to our nation’s capital as well. Washington holds the No. 2 overall pick and Maye is a serious candidate to be selected there.

If the Commanders decide to go with the North Carolina quarterback room, hopefully, there are no former Duke players on the roster. The quarterbacks will have quite the bragging rights, especially if the Tar Heels can continue to win in the future.
