4-star OL Tyler Merrill commits to Notre Dame
Mechanicsburg (Pa.) Cumberland Valley On300 offensive lineman Tyler Merrill committed to Notre Dame during his junior day visit on Saturday.
He has now gone public with his plans during a live broadcast on the On3 Recruits YouTube Channel.
Tabbed by the On3 Industry as the nation’s No. 5 interior offensive lineman and No. 81 prospect overall, the blue-chip Merrill chose to play for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish over his other finalists in Clemson, Alabama, Penn State and Wisconsin. He visited South Bend several times during his process.
“It’s super exciting,” Merrill said. “The gold helmets are iconic. Getting to be able to run out on the field, having 80, 90,000 people screaming. I think that’s awesome. I think it’s just as good as anywhere else. It’s a different type of person that attends Notre Dame. It’s not your average person.
“Notre Dame has always been a school grown from it’s roots. It’s not artificial. It’s a historic football program with great people. It’s an elite level of football. Marcus Freeman embodies everything with Notre Dame football. He brings what I don’t think anyone else could bring to a program like that.”
Notre Dame building a terrific 2026 class
The 6-foot-6, 325-pound Merrill becomes commit No. 7 for Freeman and his staff in the 2026 recruiting cycle, adding to a class that On3 previously ranked No. 10 nationally.
“Coach Freeman had a great presentation when I went on junior day,” Merrill said. “Every time I went how I was treated and the type of people that not only that attend the university and work for football but the commits are very humble and down to earth people you want to be around.
“I feel like I can be myself around people that want the best out of me. I think everyone in that program exemplifies that frame of mind of being a kind person, being humble, being hungry, obviously striving for the best but still maintaining that demeanor Coach Freeman had throughout that National Title run and success on the field.”
The season ND had really moved the needle for Merrill. He followed the Irish closely all the way to the National Championship game.
“It certainly makes them recruiting me that much more special,” he said.
The visit this past weekend sealed the deal for Merrill. He committed to Freeman and future position coach Joe Rudolph in person.

“My favorite things about the Irish are the culture and tradition,” Merrill said. “You get those things right, and the performance will follow.
“Obviously a lot of people say there is no place like Notre Dame. It’s definitely a different place. It coincides with the principles I had going into college and the people
Merrill was a major target for the Irish
Notre Dame offered Merrill on St. Patrick’s Day during the Pot of Gold Day the Irish staff does to celebrate the holiday.
“I feel like a priority to them for being one of the first on their list, especially as an o-lineman,” Merrill said at the time.
Now Notre Dame’s offensive line class is filling up fast. Merrill joins four-star Ben Nichols and Sullivan Garvin.
