More on Notre Dame vs. Virginia Tech
This matchup features the No. 11 seed versus the No. 14 seed in the ACC. Virginia Tech did not start off conference play strong this season, going 1-7 in their first eight ACC games. But the Hokies rallied in the second half of the season putting together eight conference wins, including winning their last two games of the regular season. Virginia Tech will likely rely on Grant Basile and Justyn Mutts in this matchup, as Basile leads the team in points per game and has led the Hokies in scoring in six of their last eight games. Mutts has been the do it all guy for Virginia Tech all season leading the team in rebounds, assists, and steals, also ranking in the top five in the ACC in assists and steals per game.
The Fighting Irish will be looking to extend their stay with head coach Mike Brey, who will be stepping down at after 23 years with the Fighting Irish following this season. Notre Dame secured just three conference wins this season, but one was just two games ago against a No. 25-ranked Pittsburgh team on the Irish’s senior night. Cormac Ryan has had the hot hand for Notre Dame lately, leading the team in scoring in their last two contests.
