Game 5 between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks resumed at 4:35 PM EST, following a weather delay. Or it will be 55 minutes after the completion of Game 5 if it goes past 5:00 PM EST or longer, according to Jeff Dantzler.

The Yellow Jackets would go on to win that one 3-1, before advancing to face off against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Athens Regional.

More on the Georgia-Georgia Tech Game in Athens Regional Final

In the night game against Georgia, the Yellow Jackets actually jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but they weren’t able to pull it out as the Bulldogs prevailed in extra innings, 8-6. Georgia Tech (33-25 overall) scored one run in the first inning on an RBI single from Matthew Ellis. They tacked on four runs in the second inning, thanks in large part to a three-run bomb from Vahn Lackey. Georgia was able to mount a comeback, thanks to scoring runs in the fifth, eighth, and ninth innings to force extra innings, before winning in the 10th.

Georgia’s Tre Phelps had a key home run in the eighth inning, sending a deep shot to left field, his 10th of the season, to pull the Bulldogs within one, 5-4. Bulldogs’ slugger Kolby Branch also did what he’s done so many times this year for his team, stepped up to the plate with a clutch swing. Branch delivered his second home run in two days (17th of the year) to tie the game up at 5-5 in the top of the ninth.

In the 10th inning, Georgia’s Corey Collins hit a double to left field, bringing in two runs to push the UGA lead to 8-5. The Yellow Jackets would tack on one more run, before the Bulldogs would win 8-6, securing a spot in the Super Regionals.

Georgia advanced to the Super Regionals for just the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2008. UGA played in the College World Series that year, before losing to the Fresno State Bulldogs. Georgia will host the NC State Wolfpack in the Athens Super Regionals next weekend.
