Ohio State is switching up its pregame routine for the 2024 season. Rather than entering Ohio Stadium with suits on game day, Buckeyes players will wear team sweats this year, according to head coach Ryan Day.

“We wanted everybody to look the same. The leaders felt like that was a good decision,” Day said Thursday on his radio show, via Cleveland.com. “We all agreed on that. I kind of felt strong about that.”

Every Buckeyes player will wear team-issued sweatsuits while walking through the Skull Session and to Ohio Stadium. The thought behind the change is that, now, Ohio State will be more uniform on game day.

That’s on Saturdays, but Ohio State’s also making changes to its Friday routine in Columbus. Instead of staying at the The Blackwell Inn on Tuttle Park Place, across the street from Ohio Stadium, the Buckeyes will stay the night before games downtown. Then they will be dropped off in front of St. John Arena before the Skull Session.

Day mentioned how Fridays will continue to include a trip to the Ohio State Golf Club for a team dinner after the Buckeyes wrap their “Best Fridays in Football” practice.

“We want to be relaxed, but we also want to lock in when it’s time to lock in,” Day said, when reminding listeners of why Ohio State calls Fridays “Best Fridays in Football.”

On Friday nights, Ohio State will have offense and defense meetings. That’s something Day said the Buckeyes haven’t done in the past.

Ohio State kicks off the 2024 season Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the Horseshoe against Akron. It’s the first of eight home games for the Buckeyes in a season that’s widely described as “natty or bust.” Ohio State returned 11 draft-eligible and starter-level players and added a batch of difference-making transfers.

The Buckeyes are looking for their first win against Michigan since 2019, their first Big Ten title since 2020 and their first national title since the 2014 season.
