Ohio State OC Chip Kelly visits 2026 Florida State 4-star QB commit Brady Smigiel
Upon arriving in Columbus to become the new offensive coordinator at Ohio State, Chip Kelly immediately got going on the recruiting trail.
His first quarterback offer was Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star Brady Smigiel. Back in June, Smigiel committed to Florida State.
Smigiel is now a top-50 recruit in the 2026 cycle and teams are still swinging to flip the Golden State standout from the Seminoles. Ohio State is among that group and Kelly made his way to California to visit with the signal-caller on Saturday:
Smigiel put together another impressive season in 2024 for Newbury Park. Leading the Panthers to a 14-1 record, he threw for 3,521 yards and 49 touchdowns to just three interceptions, per MaxPreps. He also ran for over 400 yards and 11 scores.
Across three seasons, Smigiel has already thrown for over 11,000 yards and 147 TDs. He significantly cut down on the turnovers as a junior and also got far more active on the feet.
He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $331K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Smigiel remaining solid with Florida State
Earlier this month, FSU head coach Mike Norvell and new OC Gus Malzahn visited with Smigiel. The Seminoles’ skipper is a major reason why he’s still pledged to the ACC program despite a turbulent 2024.
“Coach Norvell is special,” Smigiel told Warchant. “Just reminded me why I committed. Being able to see him again, and we had some important questions that me and my family had that were answered as I expected. He reminds me a lot of my dad as a coach, and that’s one of the huge reasons I committed.”
Other programs are looking to get Smigiel back on campus as he looks to build a relationship with Malzahn. In-state UCLA recently visited and is among those swinging for the blue-chipper. Ohio State will look to get Smigiel back up to Columbus, too.
The No. 6 QB in the nation, Smigiel is currently one of six commits in FSU’s 2026 recruiting class. Ohio State currently possesses four pledges in the cycle, headlined by Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr.
