Regardless of the current situation at Texas A&M, it has to be an attractive job for head coaches out there. Between being in the SEC and having quite the financial backing, it’s easy to see how success can be accomplished in College Station. After firing Jimbo Fisher, there have been some big names linked to the job.

Recently, a name emerging has been Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. Thought of as one of the best in college football, Day would be a massive hire for Texas A&M. However, Billy Liucci of TexAgs is “skeptical” of the two ever coming together.

“There is Ryan Day smoke but I’m very skeptical of the Ryan Day smoke,” Liucci said. “I’m skeptical that that’s not an agent drumming up stuff. I will continue to include Ryan Day as a candidate. That’s not who I would expect them to land.”

Day has not been directly asked about the Texas A&M job yet, with the focus in Columbus being on The Game against Michigan. A huge game with major Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff implications, Day needs to find a way to beat the Wolverines.

If Ohio State does wind up on the losing end, maybe Liucci would warm up to the idea of Day leaving the Buckeyes. But until then, he believes better candidates are out there.

“That one, there is enough smoke to where I’m like ‘Go lose to Michigan and see if that gets interesting at all.’ I think there are a couple more people, in my mind, that a lot more likely than Ryan Day,” Liucci said.

Day took over for Urban Meyer at Ohio State and is currently in the middle of his fifth season in charge of the program. He has an incredible record of 55-6 with two Big Ten Championships in there as well. Half of those losses have come in the College Football Playoff as well, truly showing how dominant the Buckeyes have been under Day.

It’s easy to see why Texas A&M wants to hire somebody of his caliber. A coach deciding to leave Ohio State for another job would surely cause shock throughout the college football world.

Texas A&M will close out their own regular season on Saturday, facing off against LSU. A bowl game is coming, with interim head coach Elijah Robinson expected to remain in the role through then. However, all attention — at least from athletic Ross Bjork — is already on the coaching search.
