Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban On300 offensive tackle Sam Greer has committed to Ohio State.

The prized in-state recruit snuck up to campus on Tuesday to surprise head coach Ryan Day and his staff with the news in the morning and went public with his plans in the afternoon.

Tabbed by On3 as the nation’s No. 12 offensive tackle and No. 99 prospect overall, the 6-foot-8, 290-pound Greer chose to play for the defending National Champs over Michigan, Missouri, Florida, Tennessee and many others.

This was Greer’s second visit to Ohio State in as many weeks.

“I really enjoyed my time at OSU,” Greer said last week. “It definitely felt different with all the new faces but in a good way.

“The o-line has four different coaches helping with development and making sure you’re being the best version of yourself every day. I really appreciate having all that feedback in real time from the coaches and I love the tempo and culture of OSU.

“They’re always playing to win and to prove something.”

Greer adds to an Ohio State class On3 previously ranked No. 6 nationally. He is one of the jewels alongside five-star receiver Chris Henry Jr. and fellow in-state prospects in offensive lineman Max Riley and Jakob Weatherspoon.

Other programs to offer Greer included Auburn, Florida State, Miami and Wisconsin.
