Ohio State transfer safety Jayden Bonsu signed with Pitt, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. The former four-star recruit will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Bonsu didn’t appear in a game during his two seasons at Ohio State. He took his redshirt as a freshman, giving him three seasons left to play.

Bonsu played high school football Hillside (N.J.) St. Peters Prep, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 285 overall player from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

After officially entering the transfer portal Dec. 19, Jayden Bonsu became the No. 463 overall player to hit the open market, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. He is also the No. 41-ranked safety to go in the portal this cycle.

Bonsu is just the third transfer addition for Pitt so far this cycle as the Panthers look to build off a bounce-back season in 2024. The Panthers finished 7-6 one year after totaling a 3-9 record. However, this season ended on a six-game losing streak after the 7-0 start.

As for Ohio State, the Buckeyes lost nine players to the portal as they continue their run to the College Football Playoff semifinals. They also have five commits coming in, led by former Purdue tight end Max Klare – the No. 17 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. Former Rice offensive lineman Ethan Onianwa is also on his way in as the No. 52-ranked player to hit the portal.

Ohio State put together another dominant performance in the Rose Bowl to knock off undefeated Oregon on New Year’s Day. Jeremiah Smith shined in a big way, totaling seven receptions for 187 yards and two touchdowns to lead the charge and win the game’s Offensive MVP award. Will Howard also had an impressive day, completing 17 of 26 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns.

The Buckeyes will now get ready for the Cotton Bowl next week against Texas. The winner will then punch its ticket to the College Football Playoff national championship.
