LOOK: Oklahoma Football trolls Texas with Golden Hat following Sooners Women's College World Series win
After the Oklahoma softball team defeated rival Texas by a score of 7-2 on Saturday at the Women’s College World Series, the Sooners football account piled on via Twitter. The Golden Hat is typically reserved for the football version of the Red River Rivalry, but the football team is willing to make an exception considering the circumstances.
“Congrats on the win (Oklahoma softball)!” the tweet read. “We have a Golden Hat you can borrow to celebrate.”
Oklahoma football is in possession of the Golden Hat because it is the latest winner of the Red River Rivalry, defeating the Texas by a score of 55-48 this past season. The Sooners football team has won the past four meetings between the two teams and is 11-3 since 2010. However, the Longhorns still hold a 62-50-5 all-time advantage in the series.
The tweet was a follow up to an earlier post that showed former Sooners football coach Bob Stoops and OU offensive lineman Bobby Evans posing together at the WCWS.

OU softball started off its Saturday scoring with a home run from Jocelyn Alo to take a 2-0 lead. The home run was her 30th this season, marking the third year she has reached that mark throughout her five-year career. According to ESPN, that makes her the only player in Division 1 softball history with at least 30 home runs in three different seasons.
It wasn’t just Alo who had success with the long ball against the Longhorns, however. Tiare Jennings also hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to increase the Sooner lead to 6-1. That happened to be Oklahoma’s highest-scoring inning, as it finished with four runs to take a commanding lead into the final stretch.
The victory was the second for Oklahoma in the Women’s College World Series, as the Sooners previously defeated Northwestern by a score of 13-2 on Saturday. OU is in search of its fourth WCWS title since 2016 after claiming last year’s championship.
The Sooners now get a day off before their next game set for noon ET on Monday.
