Oklahoma has already poached one of its arch rival’s top players, and the Sooners are looking to do so again.

After landing do-it-all Oklahoma State safety Kendal Daniels out of the NCAA Transfer Portal this week, Brent Venables and Co. have another Cowboys player on the their radar: graduate linebacker linebacker Jeff Roberson.

The fifth-year senior entered the portal on Monday, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. And not long after he did, prediction went in favor of the Sooners in the Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) from Nakos and On3 national insider Steve Wiltfong.

Roberson finished this past season with a career-high 58 total tackles (8.5 for loss) along with three sacks, one interception and one pass defended. He appeared in 42 games across his five seasons in Stillwater, going from a special teams contributor to the team’s third-leading tackler in 2024.

As a recruit, Roberson was a three-star prospect out of Choctaw (OK) High School in 2020. He ranked as the No. 877 overall player and No. 97 linebacker in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Sooners looking to retool roster in pivotal year for Venables

After a disappointing 2024 campaign that ended with a bowl loss to Navy, the Sooners are in for a wholesale change this offseason. The Sooners will be replacing nearly their entire wide receiver room, as well as starting quarterback Jackson Arnold with Washington State transfer John Mateer. In what could be make-or-break year for Brent Venables, OU is going all-in on overturning their roster.

In total, more than 30 Sooners players from last year’s roster have hit the portal, and they’ve added 12 new transfers to help replace them. Daniels, one of the most productive safeties in college football, is part of that.

He had 64 tackles, 5.5 sacks and seven passes defended in 2024. His best season was in 2023, when he notched a career-high 105 tackles, along with two sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble. He will be a big part of upgrading the Sooners’ defense, along with Florida State transfer Marvin Jones Jr.
