Oklahoma State AD Chad Weiberg says school is 'close to finalizing' Bedlam basketball series with OU
Bedlam basketball has been a staple in Oklahoma for more than a century, and it’s not going away any time soon. Oklahoma State athletic director Chad Weiberg revealed during a live Q&A via X on Tuesday that the Sooners and Cowboys are close to coming to an agreement on when the next game will be played.
“We are having ongoing and productive talks with OU,” he wrote. “We are close to finalizing the next phase of the Bedlam basketball rivalry. More on that soon.”
OSU coach Steve Lutz and Oklahoma coach Porter Moser had both previously expressed interest in keeping the rivalry alive with the Sooners headed to the SEC. Bedlam basketball has been played at least once every year dating back to 1916, or for 108 consecutive years.
It was previously rumored that they planned to schedule a game for December of this upcoming season to be played at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, which is home to the NBA’s Thunder.
Oklahoma owns a 143-107 all-time lead in the Bedlam basketball series, which played its first game in 1908. The Sooners came out on top in that one by a score of 41-9, the only time in the series that either team failed to reach double digits.

Things were a bit more even in Big 12 play, but OU still held a 33-29 record against the Cowboys since the league began in 1995-96. That included two wins the past season with an 84-82 victory in Stillwater. OSU is still 7-3 in the past 10 matchups.
Weiberg did not confirm where the game would be played, but it appears by all means that it is on track to take place next year. Softball is also set to continue the Bedlam series next season with Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso confirming that back in April.
While football is already confirmed to not continue in 2024, many others are still up in the air. It’s possible we could see more sports follow suit make an effort to keep Bedlam alive.
