Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman has been benched to start the second half on Saturday against Utah. Redshirt sophomore Garret Rangel entered the game in his place.

Bowman had a rough first half as he went 8-of-22 passing for just 89 yards and an interception, prompting the Cowboys to go a different direction. Utah currently holds a 10-3 lead to begin the third quarter.

Bowman has been the starter for OSU since last season when he directed the team to an appearance the Big 12 Championship, where it finished runner up. He had thrown for 967 yards and eight touchdowns to two interceptions through the first three games.

The quarterback looked off from the very start Saturday against the Utes as the Cowboys went three-and-out on their opening drive. They managed a field goal on their next drive to go up 3-0, but the offense continued struggle and managed just 117 yards in the first half.

Alan Bowman re-enters game, Oklahoma State still loses 22-19 to Utah

Ultimately, the change at quarterback wasn’t enough for the Cowboys to mount their comeback as they fell to the Utes by a score of 22-19. Bowman would eventually return to the game and looked much better, leading the Cowboys on a pair of late touchdown drives.

He was 8-of-11 passing for 117 yards and two touchdowns to one interception in the second half.

The loss is a tough blow for Oklahoma State, which was hoping to compete for a Big 12 title this season. It won’t get any easier for the Cowboys, who hit the road to face Kansas State next week.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the quarterback situation ahead of that matchup.
