Oklahoma State, TCU punters Tom Hutton and Jordy Sandy worked together at Australian paper mill
Tom Hutton and Jordy Sandy have been the punters at Oklahoma State and TCU, respectively, since 2019, but the pair has known each other since long before then.
With the Cowboys (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) and Horned Frogs (5-0, 2-0) facing off Saturday, the ABC broadcast revealed an incredible story about the two Australian-born players. Hutton and Sandy met in their home country before they even set foot in Forth Worth or Stillwater, and worked together at a paper mill.
There they operated out of a massive tin shed with a Jagenberg Vari-Dur – a machine similar to the size of a caravan that is designed to cut three ton reels of paper into multiple smaller reels to be made into envelopes.
“The equipment kept a lot of the heat inside in the summer, it would get up to 50 degrees (122 farenheit) in there sometimes,” Hutton told ESPN Australia in 2019. “Then in the winter it was freezing, driving open forklifts in and out of the buildings at all hours of the night.”

Hutton and Sandy would regularly carpool to work together, spending more than two hours in the car each way. Their conversations on the way to work would often include football, as both discovered that they had a similar goal of playing college football in America.

The two punters both attended Prokick Australia, an academy designed ex-NFL punter Nathan Chapman and ex-CFL kicker John Smith. The goal of the academy is to prepare players for both the college and NFL levels.
Both Tom Hutton and Jordy Sandy would finally achieve that goal in 2019, as Hutton joined the Cowboys and Sandy the Horned Frogs. Hutton, 32, has made headlines this season for being the oldest player, while Sandy fourth-oldest player at 28.
Since arriving in America, the pair have faced off against each other three times. The Cowboys hold a 2-1 advantage over the Horned Frogs in those contests, and Hutton will hope to improve that to 3-1 to claim bragging rights over his friend with a win Saturday.
Currently, Oklahoma State holds a 24-13 advantage over TCU at halftime. So far Saturday, Hutton has three punts for an average of 47 yards, while Sandy has three of an average of 39.3.
