Kansas has added a big-time addition out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Former Oklahoma State defensive back Lyrik Rawls has signed with the Jayhawks, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Rawls announced his commitment to Kansas earlier on Friday.

The Texas native just completed his redshirt junior season with the Cowboys. He appeared in all 12 games this past season, finishing the year with 23 tackles, an interception and 3 pass breakups.

Lyrik Rawls signed with Oklahoma State as a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He redshirted his first year on campus but did get playing time against Kansas in the Big 12 Championship Game.

As a redshirt freshman in 2022, Rawls recorded 24 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a sack, 2 pass breakups and a forced fumble.

He was slated for a big season in 2023 and started the first three games of the year before suffering a season-ending injury. Despite only appearing in three games, he recorded 20 tackles. Rawls had a solid season for the Cowboys in 2024, but now he is off to Kansas.

The Jayhawks finished this year with a 5-7 record. Kansas got off to a 2-6 start, before earning ranked wins over Iowa State, BYU and Colorado down the stretch.

It will be interesting to see what kind of role Rawls has with Kansas for his final year of college football. He has certainly proven to be a playmaker when healthy, and the Kansas defense could use some help in the secondary.

If Kansas can play throughout the 2025 season the way it did late in 2024, perhaps the Jayhawks can get in the Big 12 title and College Football Playoff discussion next year. It seems that the conference will be wide open.
