Oklahoma tight end Davon Mitchell plans to enter the transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. A former four-star recruit, Mitchell’s locker was cleaned out earlier Friday, according to SoonerScoop.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound tight end will have four years of eligibility remaining. The highly-regarded tight end finished the 2024 season without one snap. SoonerScoop has reported that Mitchell missed several team activities in recent weeks.

“He’s gotten better,” Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables previously said. “He’s put his head down. Gone to work, and he’s improved learning and knowing what to do. To me, there’s no excuse not to know what to do, and the coach can’t want it more than the player wants it for himself. So, he’s really plugged in, put his head down, he’s come to work every day.”

Mitchell was primed to play early as a true freshman with an unproven tight end room, but he could not get on the field. Oklahoma beat out Miami and Alabama for Mitchell coming out of high school. The tight end reclassified from the 2025 class to 2024 in July 2023.

Oklahoma is left with six scholarship tight ends with Davon Mitchell.

“I know a lot of people got a lot of questions about why I ain’t been on the field and blaming Coach V and Joe Jon but all honesty I put myself in the position not to be on the field I was very much inconsistent this year but I TRUST THE OKLAHOMA STAFF …YALL should do the same,” Mitchell said on social media following the 2024 season.
