J.D.'s CFP Rankings After Week 8

Bedlam has long been a mainstay in college sports, with the annual battle between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State providing many fond memories for those in and outside of the Sooner State.

However, with the Sooners moving to the SEC in 2024, this season’s matchup is set to be the final one for the foreseeable future in a game that has been played every season since 1910. The game will take place in Stillwater, giving the Cowboys homefield advantage. Despite this, OU opens as 6.5-point favorite according to FanDuel.

The over/under is set at 62.5 points.

Oklahoma is coming off of its first loss of the season to Kansas in Week 9. The Sooners fell apart down the stretch, going three-and-out on the final drive and give the ball back to the Jayhawks. KU then drove 80 yards down the field before Devin Neal punched in an eight-yard touchdown to go ahead for good.

Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel had a rough day getting things getting going through the air, finishing 14-of-19 passing for 171 yards and one interception with no touchdowns. He made it up on the ground with 14 carries for 64 yards and three touchdowns.

Oklahoma State, on the other hand, has been on a roll as of late. The Cowboys enter this matchup coming off of their fourth straight victory, having recently beaten Cincinnati on Saturday 45-13.

Running back Ollie Gordon continued his run of dominance this past week in the win against Bearcats. He posted his second straight outing with 200-plus yards rushing, finishing the evening with 271 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns.

Not only that, but it was his fifth straight game with more than 100 yards on the ground. He currently ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 816 yards and eight touchdowns, but is quickly climbing up the leaderboards. He’ll surely be a key focus for the Sooners defense.

The first Bedlam rivalry game took place not in Norman or Stillwater, but instead in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on Nov. 6, 1904. The Sooners — then called the Rough Riders — came out on top 75-0, which is still the largest margin of victory by either school to this day. That would be a sign of things to come, as OU has historically dominated the rivalry and holds a 91-19-7 all-time advantage over the Cowboys.

But as lopsided as the rivalry has been, it still holds a special place to alumni of both schools as well as native Oklahomans. It has provided several memorable games, including a 62-52 shootout in Stillwater that the Sooners won in 2017 and 2021’s 37-33 victory for Oklahoma State, its first Bedlam win since 2014.

Oklahoma avenged that this past season with a 28-13 Bedlam victory in Norman. However, with this being the last game in the rivalry for a long while, things are sure to get crazy, as they typically are in this game.

Kickoff between the Cowboys and Sooners is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.
