In Week 13, the final week of the college football season, the Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs will do battle with plenty on the line. The Sooners are looking to keep their Big 12 title hopes alive, whereas the Horned Frogs are trying to become bowl-eligible, a season removed from making it to the College Football Playoff championship game.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Oklahoma opens as a 12.5-point favorite over TCU. The over/under is set at 64.5 points.

Heading into this game, the biggest storyline will be the health of Oklahoma star quarterback Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel exited Oklahoma’s narrow 31-24 victory over BYU early following an upper-body injury. Shortly after the win over the Cougars, Sooners head coach Brent Venables provided some vague insight but did say he believes his star quarterback should be back on the field ‘pretty quickly.’

Oklahoma is having a much better season in year two of Venables’ tenure. Last season, the Sooners struggled to be bowl-eligible and suffered the worst loss in the history of the Red River Rivalry as Texas was able to blink them 49-0. This season, Oklahoma exacted their revenge and could have a chance to take down the Longhorns for a second time should they make it to the Big 12 title game.

But a bunch of things have to go in Oklahoma’s favor in order for them to have a chance to beat Texas twice in one season. And that starts with a victory over TCU in Week 13.

It has been an up-and-down 2023 campaign for TCU and head coach Sonny Dykes, filled with more downs than ups. The Horned Frogs started the year ranked in the top 25, but after a surprising home loss to the Colorado Buffaloes, they promptly fell out of the rankings and did not return. Couple that with inconsistent play from the defense and injuries to starting quarterback Chandler Morris in a handful of wide receivers, and you have the perfect recipe for TCU’s 5-6 record.

While the season has been rough for the Horned Frogs, they are fresh off of a win against Baylor in week 12, where a second-half surge put the Bears down by a score of 42-17. In that contest, backup quarterback Josh Hoover played his best game to date, finishing the night completing 24 of 29 pass attempts for 412 yards and two passing touchdowns.

ESPN is riding with Oklahoma in this matchup of Big 12 combatants. Currently, the sports power gives the Sooners an 86.0 percent chance of victory against the Horned Frogs. But that could change if Gabriel is unable to take the field.
