For the first time since 2014, Ole Miss is heading to Omaha for the College World Series. The Rebels handed Southern Miss a 5-0 loss on Sunday in the second game of Super Regionals to secure the sweep and punch their ticket to the field of eight.

The shutout was the second straight for the Rebels after they also defeated the Golden Eagles 10-0 on Saturday. After the big victory, Ole Miss celebrated the right way with a dogpile on the field.

Hunter Elliott got the start at pitcher and was a major part of Sunday’s victory. He pitched 7.1 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 10 to earn the victory. Josh Mallitz entered to relieve him in the eighth after Elliot gave up two of his three hits.

The Men’s College World Series appearance is the sixth in program history for Ole Miss, though it has never won the tournament. In their last appearance in 2014, the Rebels went 2-2 and were one of the final four teams remaining before losing to Virginia.

After a scoreless first four innings, Ole Miss got the bats going in the fifth on Sunday. Jacob Gonzalez hit a single to bring in Calvin Harris for the first run before a passed ball brought in the second. Finally, Kevin Graham hit an RBI single to right field to allow Gonzalez to score for the final run of the inning.

The Rebels added some extra padding to their lead in the sixth when leadoff hitter Justin Bench singled to left center to bring in Hayden Dunhurst for the fourth run of the afternoon. TJ McCants later made it a five-run lead with a solo home run to right field in the eighth.

This year in the MCWS, Ole Miss will first draw a matchup with the winner of the AuburnOregon State Super Regional. Auburn claimed the first game of that series and will have a chance to close things out at 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Men’s College World Series is set to begin June 16 in Omaha and will conclude by June 27.
