Chris Kiffin reunites with brother Lane at Ole Miss

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is entering the 2024 season without the presence of his father, Monte Kiffin, who died in July. But the Rebels are making sure the late coaching legend will be repped on the field when Furman visits Vaught Hemingway Stadium on Saturday evening.

On the back of the Ole Miss helmets will be a simple decal, an outline of Monte Kiffin in red splashed over the blue helmet. The image selected captured Kiffin during a practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006.

It’s unknown if the Rebels will wear the decals for just Saturday’s game or the duration of the season.

Ole Miss and Furman kick off at 7 p.m. EST.

Monte Kiffin was a long time coach, serving as a defensive analyst under his son after a long career coaching in both the NFL and college on the defensive side of the ball.

It’s been a family affair for the Kiffins at Ole Miss

There’s a family reunion unfolding at Ole Miss. In late August, ESPN’s Chris Low reported the Rebels hired Chris Kiffin, Lane’s brother, as an analyst.

“The Kiffin brothers are back together,” Low wrote. “Chris is joining older brother Lane as an analyst at [Ole Miss]. Chris was Lane’s [defensive coordinator] at FAU in 2017 and spent the past six years in the NFL. Kiffin continues to accumulate a wealth of experience, both NFL and college, on his staff.”

Chris Kiffin was the linebackers coach for the Houston Texans last season. Before that, he spent three seasons as the Cleveland Browns’ defensive line coach. After the 2021 campaign, Chris left the Browns to join Ole Miss’ coaching staff.

However, he ultimately returned to his position with the Browns and didn’t coach at Ole Miss. Chris began his coaching career in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. He was the organization’s pass rush coach.

Although it’s been seven years since the Kiffin brothers were on the same staff, they have an extensive history of coaching together. As Low mentioned, Chris was Lane’s defensive coordinator at FAU for one season.

When Lane took over at USC in 2010, he hired Chris to be a defensive assistant. Football runs in the family. Their father, Monte Kiffin, spent nearly 30 years in the NFL as a coach. Now, the Kiffin brothers will reunite and look to build upon their family legacy.
