Folsom (Calif.) wide receiver Jameson Powell was offered by Ole Miss last spring. He then visited camped in Oxford in June before returning for another visit in July. Fast forward six months and the No. 44 prospect in California has committed to Lane Kiffin and the Rebels.

“On Sunday, coach George McDonald came out to see me and I wasn’t planning on committing this soon, but I prayed on it and I just felt it,” Powell told On3. “I got that message from God. God put these people from Ole Miss in my life, I woke up the night after I met with coach McDonald and I just had that feeling. I decided it was a sign and that the time was right, so I pulled the trigger.”

Powell committed to the Rebels over the likes of Arizona and Washington among other schools. He has close to 20 offers, but Ole Miss checks a lot of boxes for him.

“The coaches are great. They recruited me hard, they made me feel wanted and they will help me develop. My parents helped me a lot too. They love the coaches, they felt comfortable with my decision and we all felt good about this.”

“Coach Charlie Weiss, Jr. recruited me first, then coach McDonald and we have great relationships. Those two and coach Kiffin will be coaching me and helping me develop at Ole Miss. Coach Weiss and coach Kiffin have coached receivers in the past, so I will be coached by multiple receiver gurus.

“Then the offense… coach Kiffin runs a great offense. We watched film and I saw them run crazy plays, receives run great routes and I want to be a part of that. Coach Kiffin and what he does played a lot into my decision.”

Folsom joins Zion LeGree on the 2026 Ole Miss commitment list.

Conference and environment also led Powell to Ole Miss

The conference Ole Miss plays in impacted his decision too. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound playmaker in northern California has never shied away from competition and he is excited about playing in the SEC.

“I have wanted to play in the SEC my whole life,” Powell said. “I watched college football since I was a kid and I have always wanted to go play against the best. This is why I travel the country to different camps and events – to compete against the best.

“I want to go against the best, go against guys who will be first round draft picks and that is why I chose to play in the SEC with Ole Miss. To be the best, you have to play against them and compete with them. I will get that in the SEC.”

Powell feels he will be pushed and developed by the staff and focused on the task at hand in Oxford.

“Ole Miss is a great place. There are not too many distractions, but some stuff to do to have fun while being focused on what I want to accomplish. It has that great home environment for me.

“The environment fits me and I will be coached by coach McDonald. I match what he wants in a player and he matches what I want in a coach. Ole Miss is just a great place for me to be.”

Now Powell will work on his teammate, elite quarterback Ryder Lyons. There is more talk about BYU and USC, but Ole Miss is definitely a school to watch as well.

“We have been rockin’ since the eighth grade, so I am going to try and get him to come down to Ole Miss with me,” Powell said. “If we play together in college, we would shock the world. I am going to stay on him every day.”
