The Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State has typically been played on Thanksgiving Day. However, that will change in 2024.

According to a report from Ross Dellenger, the game will take place on Black Friday — Nov. 29 — this season.

The Egg Bowl will be televised by ABC, according to Dellenger.

“The 2024 Egg Bowl, between Mississippi State & Ole Miss, is shifting off Thanksgiving and onto Black Friday, sources tell @YahooSports. The Rebels & Bulldogs kick off at 3:30 pm ET on Nov. 29 & will be televised on ABC – a major viewership spot for deeply rooted hate,” Dellenger posted on Twitter.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State have split the past two Egg Bowls, with the Rebels winning 17-7 in Starkville last season and the Bulldogs earning a 24-22 victory in Oxford in 2022. This year’s meeting will take place in Oxford.

Ole Miss is led by head coach Lane Kiffin, who is entering his fifth season leading the Rebels program. The Bulldogs are led by Jeff Lebby, who is entering his first season as the head coach at Mississippi State.

Adding to the intrigue for the Egg Bowl is the fact that Lebby used to coach at Ole Miss. He was the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss under Kiffin in 2020 and 2021.

Lane Kiffin on 2023 Egg Bowl win: ‘Appreciate it more once you’ve lost it’

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was thankful to come out on top against Mississippi State in 2023 after coming up short the previous year.

Kiffin spoke after the game about the importance of the win.

“It’s just really cool,” Kiffin said. “It’s one of those things that you appreciate it more once you’ve lost it. To have it back for our players, for our fans… I just want to thank God for the opportunity to coach these guys because it’s just really cool. Half these guys are brand new and just came in here, and to win 10 games is awesome.”

Ole Miss’ ground game was pivotal in the victory in 2023. The Rebels ran the ball 49 times for 211 yards last season in the Egg Bowl. Quinshon Judkins tallied 119 rushing yards and a touchdown alone. Kiffin isn’t used to grind-it-out victories, but he’s proud of his team’s tenacity.

“That’s a cool way to win. To play a defensive game like that, run the ball in to win,” Kiffin said. “I’m really proud of our guys and blessed to coach these guys — a really cool group of guys.”

Judkins won’t be a part of this year’s game after transferring to Ohio State this offseason.
