Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei quarterback Elijah Brown received an offer from Ole Miss on Tuesday.

The offer comes two days after Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin‘s former employer, USC, extended an offer to Brown.

Only a sophomore in high school, Brown is the starting quarterback for Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, which is the No. 1 team in the country.

Elijah Brown is a big-time commit

Elijah Brown led the team to a 42-21 win over then-No. 3 Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco on Friday in one of the most-hyped games of the high school season.

Brown was 13-for-18 for 263 yards and five touchdowns in the game. The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco features 2022 On300 linebacker Jalen Woods and 2023 On3 Top 100 defensive lineman Matayo Uiagalelei.

He is only the fourth freshman to start after Matt Barkley, Todd Marinovich and JT Daniels. Barkley and Marinovich both played in the NFL, and Daniels is the starting quarterback at Georgia.

For the season, Elijah Brown has 1,809 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and only one interception.

Arizona, Pittsburgh and Utah have also offered Brown.

Lane Kiffin recently talked about California quarterbacks moving to the SEC

Last Wednesday, Lane Kiffin was asked about the recent trend of California quarterbacks committing to and playing for schools in the SEC.

“California quarterbacks have always played well and now they’ve started to move,” Kiffin said. “They’ve started to move into the SEC more and I think that’s just a product of the SEC being better than everywhere else and the offenses have changed out here. Used to be the West Coast was ahead offensively and the SEC was a little bit archaic and that’s obviously changed a lot now.”

Matt Corral, Kiffin’s current signal caller at Ole Miss, is himself a Southern California native. He attended Long Beach (Calif.) Long Beach Poly and was a consensus four-star recruit before heading to Oxford, Miss.

Kiffin has helped shape Corral into a Heisman favorite. There’s no doubt he will be trying to convince Elijah Brown he can do the same.

Ironically, the Ole Miss offer comes just days after losing 42-21 to Alabama, who is led by quarterback Bryce Young.

Young was the starting quarterback at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei before Elijah Brown.
