Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart fires back at SEC coach questioning his arm strength
The offseason always spawns some silliness and one of the annual practices that usually gets players and coaches alike the most riled up is the compiling of anonymous quotes for offseason stories. Quarterback Jaxson Dart knows a thing or two about that.
The Ole Miss gunslinger was the target of one questioning take by a reported anonymous SEC coach in a piece on ESPN.
The main critique?
“I don’t know if he’s got a big NFL arm,” the SEC coach said.
How’s this for a response? Jaxson Dart took to the field underneath the lights and uncorked an absolute bomb from somewhere around his 30-yard line all the way toward the opposite goal line, a throw of some 70 yards or so in the air. Check it out below.
That should answer any questions about Jaxson Dart’s arm strength. But the Ole Miss quarterback will get plenty of opportunities to prove it this fall.
The Rebels are expected to compete for a College Football Playoff berth in the expanded 12-team format, one year after racking up 11 wins and a Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl win. A revamped roster that was reloaded heavily through the transfer portal should help.

So too should Jaxson Dart’s familiarity with the offensive system, now going into the third year with the same offense, same head coach and same coordinator.
“I think it’s very beneficial to have a quarterback who’s played for the same offensive coach for three years,” Dart said during SEC Media Days last month. “You can kind of take new stuff and do new, fun things in the offense. At the same time it gives me a lot more freedom. There’s a lot more on my plate this year, which I really enjoy. Gives me a lot of room to kind of make my checks and play the game how I’m seeing it.”
Jaxson Dart threw for 2,985 yards and 20 touchdowns a year ago, while also running for 377 yards and seven scores. He threw just five interceptions.
If he can improve on those numbers this fall Ole Miss will be a tough out for anyone. So anonymous SEC coaches beware.
