Ole Miss, Texas Tech slated to meet in TaxAct Texas Bowl

With the final Top 25 CFP rankings released, the College Football Playoff matchups set and the New Year’s Six bowls also announced, individual bowls have begun to announce their matchups. The TaxAct Texas Bowl will feature Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech.

The two teams have previous met six times, with the Rebels holding a 4-2 edge.

Going into bowl season the two teams were headed in opposite directions.

Ole Miss (8-4, 4-4 SEC) lost three straight games to end the season after entertaining College Football Playoff hopes entering the month of November. Texas Tech (7-5, 5-4 Big 12), on the other hand, battled throughout the season and closed on a three-game winning streak.

The Red Raiders were relatively competitive in virtually every game, even while dealing with injuries that forced the team to play three different starting quarterbacks.

Meanwhile, the Rebels were powered by USC quarterback transfer Jaxson Dart and a strong rushing game. Freshman Quinshon Judkins ran for 1,476 yards and 16 touchdowns, while TCU transfer Zach Evans ran ffor 899 yards and eight touchdowns despite being limited at times due to an injury.

The TaxAct Texas Bowl is scheduled for a 9 p.m. ET kickoff on Dec. 28 at NRG Stadium in Houston, with a national broadcast on ESPN.

Ole Miss, Texas Tech series history

Ole Miss holds a 4-2 edge in the all-time series between the two programs, having won the last two meetings. Three of the meetings have previously come in bowl games.

The Rebels beat the Red Raiders 47-27 to open the 2018 season in the Advocare Texas Kickoff.

The two programs met in the Cotton Bowl in 2009 (a 47-34 Ole Miss win), as well as the Independence Bowl in both 1998 and 1986 (a 35-18 Ole Miss win and a 20-17 Ole Miss win, respectively).
