Expanded On3 2024 rankings headlined by new No. 1 Tre Johnson
On3 has released the updated and expanded its basketball player rankings for the 2024 cycle. This rankings release is the second of six updates for the Class of 2024. This update is heavily impacted by sophomore season evaluations, coupled with spring and early summer AAU events.
On3’s expansion of the 2024 rankings — from 25 to 75 prospects — includes a new No. 1 overall prospect, six new 5-stars and 11 prospects that went from unranked into the top 30 overall.
Grading the On3 Top 75 for 2024
The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: Five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, while 80-89 grades are for three stars.
The first 10 prospects are five stars with a rating of 98 or higher. The rankings for current cycles will be updated on a regular schedule throughout the year with 20 five-stars by the final ranking of a cycle. Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential in college basketball, ultimately manifested by the NBA draft.
Let’s get into some of the storylines surrounding the On3 Top 75.
Tre Johnson is the No. 1 for 2024
Five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson takes over the top spot in the 2024 rankings. The near 6-foot-6 shooting guard has been tremendous in every setting we have seen him, dating back to the high school season. He possesses a good frame with plenty of room for continued growth. Johnson is young prospect that is already proven to be knockdown shooter with NBA range off the catch or dribble. His willingness to both initiate, and welcome contact is high-end for his age. Johnson is a smooth player that plays with ideal pace, but understands when it’s time to attack downhill.
Johnson’s father signed with Baylor out of high school. The Bears and Texas Longhorns are considered the early favorites. Texas assistant Rodney Terry has a long standing connection to the father, who is a high school coach at Lake Highlands High.
Checking in at No. 2 is Ian Jackson, who gave Johnson a run for the money as No. 1 overall. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard flashed his explosive ability at the Pangos All-American Camp in early June. He’s a high-end athlete with length, and the ability to take advantage of straight line opportunities with quickness and explosive ability above the rim. Attacking downhill, and mid-range pull ups are the strength of his game. He displayed the ability to make three’s in bunches, but can work on consistency from the perimeter. Kentucky is a heavy favorite early on according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Six new 5 stars in On3 2024 rankings
The first edition of the On3 prospect rankings for the class of 2024 included four 5-star prospects. Further evaluations by the On3 staff has added six new 5-stars to the rankings.
Three big men have been elevated to five-star status by On3. 6-foot-9 Flory Budinga, 6-foot-10 Yves Missi and 6-foot-10 Somto Cyril were all eye openers this spring and throughout June. Budinga’s powerful play above the rim, yet fluid and agile movement skills have been a constant in the spring and at the NBPA Top 100 camp in Orlando to end June. Missi displayed a physical mindset and presence in early June at Pangos All-American Camp against a loaded group of bigs in 2023 and 2024. It may be Cyril that has the highest upside of the three, however. His physicality, board shoulders and length are on another level than most bigs in high school basketball. He punishes defenders with thunderous dunks, and is developing a game over his left shoulder. On the defensive end, he proved to be a valuable rim protector at NBPA Top100 Camp.
New 5-stars:
No. 3 PF/C Flory Bidunga, Kokomo (In.) High
No. 4 SF Asa Newell, Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) Montverde Academy
No. 6 C Yves Missi, Colora (Md.) West Nottingham Academy
No. 8 SF Trentyn Flowers, Atlanta (Ga.) Rosedale Christian Academy
No. 9 PG Johnuel Fland, White Plains (N.Y.) Archbishop Stepinac
No. 10 C Somto Cyril, Chattanooga (Tn.) Hamilton Heights Christian Academy
Florida leads all states with nine in top 75
The Sunshine State is more than arguably the top-producing football state in the country on an annual basis. The state has quietly become extremely talented on the hardwood as well with a boost from Montverde Academy, and IMG Academy.
Montverde Academy is once again well represented in the On3 prospect rankings. Five-star forward Asa Newell is the headliner, along with Lone Star State transfer forward Liam McNeeley. The 6-foot-8 and 6-foot-7 prospects are two of the most versatile forwards in the 2024 cycle. Point guard Curtis Givens is another new addition to the powerhouse program. He will be tagged with running a team full of nationally recruited prospects. Power forward Derik Queen will be a floor spacer and low blocker scoring threat with an expanded role this season.
Here’s a look a the players from Florida in the top 75:

College commitments in the updated On3 ranking
The class of 2024 is yet to make college decisions, by and large. Two prospects in the ranking have committed. Combo guard Mercy Miller is the son of Master P, who briefly attended the University of Houston out of high school on basketball scholarship. Power forward Morez Johnson plays on one of the best front courts in the country at St. Rita High in Chicago along with No. 23 and center James Brown.
No. 63 CG Mercy Miller, Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame – Houston commitment
No. 30 PF Morez Johnson, Chicago (Ill.) St. Rita – Illinois commitment
