Now that official visits are already taking place, the recruiting world has officially turned its eyes toward the Class of 2023. With a bevy of notable quarterbacks, a geographic diversity among the nation’s top players and plenty of other notable storylines, the 2023 cycle is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in recent memory. And, per usual, the players at the top of the class will be among the most highly recruited in the nation.

Following the recent release of an updated On300 ranking, a number of changes have happened in the On3 Consensus, including five new five-star prospects.

Checking in as the No. 20 overall prospect in the class is Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson safety Tony Mitchell. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Alabama Crimson Tide has the best chance of landing him. The On3 RPM says the Tide has a 67.5% chance ahead of Texas A&M at 15.9%. Florida is at 12.6% and Auburn at 1.2%. Mitchell is expected to be on campus this weekend at Auburn for an unofficial visit.

Tony Mitchell Scouting Summary

“Tony Mitchell is a big defensive back with refined cover skills. Initially began his career as a cornerback. But he has continued to add size. One of the bigger top safety prospects nationally at around 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Furthermore, he’s maintained and continued to develop his coverage skills. Hes among the more technically refined cover safeties in the 2023 cycle. Comfortable covering receivers in man situations. Tony Mitchell uses his fluidity and length to make plays on the ball. Has also shown some striking power as a cover-down defender with the willingness to deliver some hits across the middle of the field.

“Additionally, Tony Mitchell stars for one of the top high school programs and more talented prep defenses in the Southeast. Does not have verified athletic markers via camp settings or in track.” – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
