On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings Top 10

Following a change in industry rankings, as well as multiple key commitments and decommitments, the top 10 of the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings shifted this week. As it stands right now, Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State have the nation’s top three recruting classes and lead the rankings.

However, Texas, Notre Dame and LSU are close behind. See the full top 10 below:

1. Alabama (94.560)
3 five-stars | 11 four-stars | 4 three-stars | 20 total recruits
Top Commit: Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek safety Caleb Downs, No. 13 in On3 Consensus
Summary: The Crimson Tide surged to the top spot following a stellar summer on the recruiting trail. They currently have the most five-star recruits in the country with three: Downs, Jahlil Hurley and Tony Mitchell. Alabama also has two more top-50 prospects in four-star running backs Richard Young and Justice Haynes, as well as top-100 quarterbacks Eli Holstein and Dylan Lonergan.

2. Georgia (93.411)
0 five-stars | 14 four-stars | 4 three-stars | 18 total recruits
Top Commit: Phenix City (Ala.) Central cornerback A.J. Harris, No. 35 in On3 Consensus
Summary: The defending national champions have the nation’s second best class thanks to commitments from Harris, four-star safety Joenel Aguero and four-star linebacker Raylen Wilson. All three are top-50 prospects. Additionally, Georgia has three other top-100 recruits in four-star linebacker Troy Bowles, four-star tight end Pearce Spurlin and four-star offensive tackle Bo Hughley. Despite not having any five-stars committed, the Bulldogs’ 2023 class is promising.

3. Ohio State (93.313)
1 five-stars | 17 four-stars | 2 three-stars | 20 total recruits
Top Commit: Miami Gardens (Fla.) American Heritage wide receiver Brandon Inniss, No. 18 in On3 Consensus
Summary: The Buckeyes, who formerly held the top spot in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings in late June, have found success recruiting both sides of the ball. They have pledges from Inniss, four-star wide receiver Carnell Tate and four-star wide receiver Noah Rogers, who all rank in the top 10 at their position. Ohio State also has a commitment from the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the country in Luke Montgomery. On defense, Ohio State has pledges from top-200 cornerbacks Kayin Lee and Calvin Simpson-Hunt, as well as four-star safety Malik Hartford.

4. Texas (93.305)
2 five-stars | 14 four-stars | 6 three-stars | 22 total recruits
Top Commit: New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning, No. 1 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Manning, a Five-Star Plus+ prospect, helped spark the Longhorns’ class to one of the best in the country. It currently contains playmakers like five-star safety Derek Williams, four-star wide receivers Johntay Cook II and Ryan Niblett and four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. The Longhorns have also made an in-state impact by landing top-200 Texas prospects like Cook, Niblett, four-star cornerback Malik Muhammad and four-star EDGE Derion Gullette.

5. Notre Dame (93.283)
1 five-stars | 19 four-stars | 2 three-stars | 22 total recruits
Top Commit: Denton (Texas) Guyer safety Peyton Bowen, No. 24 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Despite losing a commitment from five-star EDGE Keon Keeley, the Fighting Irish still have a top-five class. That is thanks to the stellar recruiting efforts of head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff. Outside of Bowen, a five-star, Notre Dame has three other top-100 prospects in four-star offensive tackle Charles Jagusah, four-star cornerback Christian Gray and four-star linebacker Drayk Bowen. All four recruits are ranked in the top-10 of their position, as well as four-star defensive lineman Brenan Vernon.

Top Commit: Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr., No. 34 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Brian Kelly is making a mark during his first offseason in Louisiana. The Tigers have landed commitments from some of the top players in the Pelican State such as Sampson Jr., four-star running back Kaleb Jackson, four-star offensive tackle Tyree Adams and four-star quarterback Rickie Collins. All four are top-15 players in Louisiana. Kelly has also made a mark out-of-state, earning commitments from top-60 prospects like wide receiver Jalen Brown and four-star EDGE Dashawn Womack.

7. Oklahoma (92.620)
2 five-stars | 10 four-stars | 8 three-stars | 20 total recruits
Top Commit: Denton (Tex.) Guyer quarterback Jackson Arnold, No. 17 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Despite Lincoln Riley‘s departure, the Sooners’ recruiting efforts haven’t lost a step under new head coach Brent Venables. The crown jewel of Oklahoma’s 2023 class is Arnold, the MVP of the Elite 11 and the Sooners’ likely signal-caller of the future. Another five-star commit is EDGE Adepoju Adebawore. Other top players in the Sooners’ class include four-star wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway and four-star offensive tackle Cayden Green. Oklahoma also has won recruiting battles in nearby states like Texas for prospects including Pettaway and four-star EDGE Colton Vasek.

8. Clemson (92.149)
2 five-stars | 15 four-stars | 3 three-stars | 20 total recruits
Top Commit: Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christian quarterback Christopher Vizzina, No. 26 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Clemson’s class is led by two players from Alabama in Vizzina and five-star defensive tackle Peter Woods, representing Dabo Swinney and his staff’s ability to reel in top out-of-state prospects. Other top-100 recruits from outside South Carolina who have chosen the Tigers include four-star defensive lineman Vic Burley and four-star interior offensive lineman Harris Sewell. All four prospects are ranked in the top 10 of their position. Other blue-chip prospects who chose Clemson include four-star linebacker Jamal Anderson and four-star athlete Ronan Hanafin.

9. Miami (92.148)
1 five-stars | 8 four-stars | 8 three-stars | 17 total recruits
Top Commit: Bradenton (Fla). IMG Academy offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, No. 5 in On3 Consensus
Summary: Despite only one commitment in August, it is hard to ignore the success of Miami head coach Mario Cristobal on the recruiting front. Mauigoa is one of five Five-Star Plus+ prospects, while the Hurricanes have four other top-75 recruits in four-star EDGE Jayden Wayne, four-star linebacker Malik Bryant, four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada and four-star tight end Riley Williams. Cristobal has also used Miami’s location to the program’s advantage, landing in-state recruits like Bryant and four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph.

10. Florida (91.877)
0 five-stars | 16 four-stars | 4 three stars | 20 total recruits
Top Commit: Gardendale (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Kelby Collins, No. 62 in On3 Consensus
Summary: The summer may have started off slow for the Gators, but Billy Napier and his staff are in the process of building one of the nation’s best recruiting classes. A key factor of Florida’s success has been searching the Sunshine State for recruits. Some of the Gators’ top prospects are from Florida like four-star wide receiver Aidan Mizell, four-star running back Treyaun Webb and four-star EDGE Isaiah Nixon. Napier has also went out of state for top-150 recruits like Collins and four-star defensive lineman T.J. Searcy.
