On Monday, On3 debuted its initial class of 2024 player rankings. In the first release, 25 players were announced — the first four being five-star recruits.

Let’s take a look at each of the four.

1. Naasir Cunningham | SF

Naas Cunningham is the unanimous No. 1 overall prospect for the class of 2024. The 6-foot-7 small forward out of Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St Bernards already boasts scholarship offers from Duke, UCLA, UConn, and others. He’s also the high school teammate of 2023 five-star Mackenzie Mgbako, a Duke commit.

Scouting Report: Naas Cunningham is a long, rangy, and athletic wing prospect. You first notice the frame, he looks like a basketball player. Offensively, Cunningham is an adept shot-making, extending out to three, off the catch. He will need to continue putting on weight and getting stronger. He is an explosive athlete, which he shows in transition. His length, positional size, and quick-twitch athleticism give the belief he can become a good team defender in time. Would like to see him attack the basket more, not settle for jump shots, but his ability to create space and knock down shots has him trending at the top of the 2024 class. – Jamie Shaw, On3’s National Recruiting Analyst

2. Ian Jackson | SG

Coming in at No. 2 overall is Ian Jackson. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard also happens to be the best overall positionally. Reigning from the Bronx (N.Y.) Cardinal Hayes, Jackson has received early offers from UConn, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Kansas State, and others.

Scouting Report: Ian Jackson is a high-level athlete. He has long arms, broad shoulders, and explosive athleticism in the paint. Jackson has confidence with the ball in his hands, he is decisive in getting downhill to the rim. He can rise up and finish above the rim, and pull up in the mid-range with an assortment of floaters and pull-ups. Jackson is a capable shooter from three and confident well beyond the arc. His shot selection can get a little wild at times. He is comfortable on the ball, but would like to see him see the floor better. He has natural athletic tools and the utmost confidence.

3. Bryson Tucker | SF

Next up at No. 3 overall is Bryson Tucker. The 6-foot-6 wing out of Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph’s holds offers from Duke, Georgetown, Illinois, Indiana, and others. Tucker has a mature body and game, a smooth shooting stroke, and is as fundamentally sound as they come. His father played collegiately at NC State and then George Mason.

Scouting Report: Simply put, Bryson Tucker is a basketball player. He has great size to go with a natural basketball IQ. Nothing in his game seems to ever be rushed, he plays at his own pace. He understands change of pace and he makes good decisions with the ball. Tucker has good length, and he is a good athlete. He can make shots with a confident pull-up. Tucker’s dad, Byron, is 6-10 and scored over 1,000 points at NC State/George Mason. You would like to see Bryson’s jump shot to become more consistent. He has a great work ethic and is one to continue watching as a five-star.

4. Tre Johnson | SG

Round out On3’s group of five-stars is Tre Johnson. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Dallas Lake Highlands is the next great prospect out of the state of Texas. The Longhorns, Texas Tech, Baylor, Tennessee, Kansas, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and others have already offered.

Scouting Report: Tre Johnson has a good frame with plenty of room to continue adding muscle. His calling card is his shooting. Johnson is a knockdown shooter with deep range, able to make shots off the catch or the bounce. We would like to see him continue to develop his handle in the half-court and become more of a secondary-type ball handler. Johnson has a smooth game, he does not get rushed. He is a solid athlete and he plays with the utmost confidence and smoothness.
