Each week, On3 selects coordinators of the week from each Power Five conference.

Our choices for Week 3:

ACC — Jason Beck, Syracuse OC

On the same day it was announced that Syracuse had lost star tight end Oronde Gadsden to a season-ending injury, Beck led the way as the Orange posted 455 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-20 road win over Purdue. In addition to throwing for 184 yards, Syracuse QB Garrett Shrader also ran for 195 yards and four touchdowns. The fourth of Shrader’s touchdown runs upped the Orange lead to 15 with 3:19 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Big Ten — Jim Knowles, Ohio State DC

Against an offense that ranked seventh-best nationally last season, Knowles’ defense actually produced more points (14) than it gave up (10). During Ohio State’s 63-10 win over Western Kentucky, Knowles held the Hilltoppers, who have a projected NFL draft pick at QB and a projected early-round draft pick at wide receiver, to 284 yards, 3 of 15 on third down and one touchdown. Ohio State also had four takeaways and two defensive touchdowns.

Big 12 — Jordan Lesley, West Virginia DC

West Virginia got a much-needed win over rival Pittsburgh despite only getting 211 yards from its offense. In the 17-6 win, Lesley held Pitt to 211 yards and didn’t allow any points in the second half. The Mountaineers also had three interceptions off of Panthers QB Phil Jurkovec, who finished 8 of 20 for 81 yards with no touchdowns and the three INTs. The first interception gave West Virginia’s offense the ball at the Pitt 7-yard line and set up a touchdown that gave the Panthers an early 7-3 lead.

Pac-12 — Ryan Grubb, Washington OC

For the third straight game to start the year, Grubb’s offense finished with more than 40 points and more than 560 yards of total offense. During Washington’s 41-13 win over Michigan State, the Huskies finished with 713 yards and led 35-0 at halftime before cruising in the second half. Washington QB Michael Penix threw for 473 yards with four TD passes.

SEC — LSU OC Mike Denbrock, LSU DC Matt House

During LSU’s 41-13 win at Mississippi State, the Tigers outgained the Bulldogs 530-201. Denbrock’s offense produced five touchdowns in the game’s first 48 minutes. House’s defense, meanwhile, held Mississippi State to 143 yards and seven points until a garbage time touchdown drive during the fourth quarter. House’s defense forced five three-and-outs and had a fourth down on a separate drive.
