On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Alabama trending to flip Ty Lockwood
Nick Saban and Alabama have been on a recruiting tear recently, and they’re not looking to slow down any time soon. Without a tight end commit thus far in the 2023 cycle, the Crimson Tide have turned up on the heat on four-star Ohio State commit Ty Lockwood.
And it appears to be working. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), Alabama now has a 97.1 percent chance of flipping Lockwood, who has been committed to the Buckeyes for nearly a year. Included in that are updates from around the industry, as well as expert predictions from On3 national recruiting analysts Sam Spiegelman and Jeremy Johnson.
With Ohio State recently taking a commitment from another four-star pass-catcher, Jelani Thurman, Saban and Co. made their move on Lockwood. He made an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend. And by the end of his visit, intel was already coming out that the Tide had made a major move with him.

Lockwood, who ranks as the nation’s No. 132 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus, was one of the early cornerstones of Ohio State’s recruiting class, giving the Buckeyes their first commitment this cycle.
Alabama, though, offers him the chance to stay a bit closer to home and to be the focus of their tight end recruiting in this cycle. Ty Lockwood has yet to announce that he is decommitted from the Buckeyes. But he’s very much someone to keep an eye on over the next few days and weeks for Crimson Tide fans.
