2022 four-star running back Gi'Bran Payne signed with Indiana but was granted a release from his letter of intent.

Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle running back and one-time Indiana signee Gi’Bran Payne is set to announce his college decision Friday. And according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), a new team has taken the lead in his recruitment ahead of the announcement.

The RPM gives Notre Dame a 43.8 percent chance of securing Payne’s commitment. Indiana (30.9%) and Kentucky (24.9%) trail slightly behind.

Payne is the No. 334 overall recruit and No. 27 running back in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He signed with the Hoosiers in December, but asked out of his National Letter of Intent in February when running backs coach Deland McCullough left for Notre Dame.

“As a person (and athlete), I thrive and prosper off of communication and genuine relationships,” Gi’Bran Payne said in a social media statement last month. “With that being said, I am looking to explore my options to ensure I am making the best decision for me and my future. I am grateful and appreciate all the consideration and opportunities that were given by the staff and coaches at Indiana University.”

Notre Dame has one running back commit in the 2022 class in Denison (Texas) four-star running back Jadarian Price.
