On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Miami takes lead for North Carolina 3-star DL commit Joshua Horton

Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes three-star defensive lineman Joshua Horton committed to North Carolina on Aug. 19. He is one of two players at his position in the Tar Heels’ 2023 recruiting class.

However, that may not be the case in a few weeks or months. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Miami now has a 58.7% chance to flip Horton. Meanwhile, the Tar Heels’ odds are 37.2%.

The Hurricanes’ increased chance comes after multiple predictions from On3 recruiting insiders. They include Gary Ferman of CaneSport, Matt Shodell of CaneSport, Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ and Keith Niebuhr of Auburn Live.

The 6-foot-3.5, 275-pound prospect is the No. 996 overall prospect and No. 111 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 99 player in Georgia.

On3 rates Horton higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, he is the No. 60 defensive lineman and No. 63 player in Georgia.

North Carolina’s 2023 class is currently No. 26 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 5 in the ACC. The group is led by Durham (N.C.) Southern four-star EDGE Jaybron Harvey, the No. 210 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Meanwhile, Miami’s 2023 class is No. 8 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 1 in the ACC. The Hurricanes do not have any defensive lineman commits.

Horton has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.9K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
