Concord (N.C.) Jay M Robinson four-star defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs has decided to postpone his college commitment.

He was originally set to announce a commitment Aug. 1 but will now postpone to an unknown date in the future.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has North Carolina as the favorites to land Hobbs at 95.3%. He has taken official visits to see the Tar Heels and Auburn.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

Daevin Hobbs was a major riser in the recent On300 ranking

The On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — has Daevin Hobbs as the No. 117 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle.

He is ranked highest by On3, which has him as the No. 83 recruit in the cycle. On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power explained what makes Hobbs an intriguing prospect earlier this week.

“The North Carolina native jumped from No. 200 to 83 overall in the On300,” Power said. “He is one of the more athletic and high-end jumbo athletes in the 2023 cycle. Hobbs excels above the rim on the hardwood and took home team MVP honors on a state championship hoops squad. The 6-foot-4, 257 pounder makes uber-athletic plays at defensive end and tight end on Friday nights. He possesses an 80-inch wingspan and big hands. He’s also a quick initial mover with the agility to get small when needed and pursue from the backside. His ability to close in on the football stands out. Hobbs was a productive player in 2021 with 20 tackles for loss. His best football is way out in front of him.”

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $104k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
