Maiden (N.C.) wide receiver Chris Culliver is now focusing on seven schools in his recruitment, he announced Thursday afternoon on Twitter.

Along with in-state programs Appalachian State, North Carolina and North Carolina State, Culliver included Florida State, Maryland, Ohio State and Virginia Tech in his top schools list.

The 6-foot-2, 174-pounder is the No. 267 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 39 receiver and the No. 11 prospect in the Tar Heel State.

The Industry Comparison shows On3 is much higher than the other three recruiting services, though. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the No. 127 prospect nationally, No. 20 wide receiver and No. 6 player in the Tar Heel State.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power had this to say in March when Culliver jumped into the conversation as one of the country’s best wideouts:

Chris Culliver may be the most underrated prospect in North Carolina according to the recruiting industry. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder had a great junior season at Maiden (N.C.) High, catching 62 passes for 1,310 yards and 26 touchdowns. Culliver is a smooth mover with coordinated ball skills. He also plays basketball and we expect him to run under 11.0 seconds in the 100-meter dash this spring.”

The in-state Tar Heels are considered slight favorites in his recruitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives UNC a 36.9 percent chance of securing his commitment, with Florida State (25.1%) and Appalachian State (11.4%) trailing behind.
