On300 4-star OT Takhyian Whitset decommits from Purdue
Nashville (Tenn.) Antioch four-star offensive tackle Takhyian Whitset has decommitted from Purdue, he announced on Wednesday night.
Whitset had been pledged to the Boilermakers since April 30, when he chose them over Vanderbilt, Arkansas State, UAB and others.
“After conversations with family, and coaches, I have decided to open my recruitment process back up,” he wrote on Twitter. “I would like to thank Coach Johnson, and Coach Matute, and the rest of the Purdue family for everything they have done. With that being said I will be decommitting from Purdue University.”
The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder is the No. 672 overall prospect and No. 40 offensive tackle in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3, however, is much higher on him than the other services. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 238 recruit and No. 20 offensive tackle.
NC State making a strong push for Whitset
His decommitment comes after Whitset recently took an official visit to NC State. The Wolfpack offered the coveted offensive lineman Sept. 11 and, less than a month later, he spent a weekend in Raleigh.

“I’d say they exceeded everything that I thought it was going to be,” Whitset told The Wolfpacker. “I really like it up there.”
NC State’s fan base, the staff and the overall environment around Raleigh stood out to him. And he and offensive line coach Garett Tujague have developed a strong bond since he was offered.
“I like that he’s a straight-up person,” Whitset added. “We were in the film room, and he’s in there correcting things that I could have been doing better. I haven’t had really a coach that did that so far, so that’s pretty cool.”
Whitset is the second critical decommitment this week for Purdue, joining four-star defensive back Dawayne Galloway. Three-star wide receiver LeBron Hill also backed off his pledge last month, leaving the Boilermakers with just 12 commitments and a class that ranks No. 70 nationally.
