On300 ATH Mikal Harrison-Pilot commits to Houston over TCU
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — On300 athlete Mikal Harrison-Pilot has navigated the recruiting process for more than two years. Down to a pair of in-state contenders, the Consensus’ No. 4 ATH realized in December that “it was about that time.”
At the All-American Bowl on Saturday, Harrison-Pilot committed to Houston over TCU. Both Texas-based universities hosted the four-star wide receiver for official visits last month, and in the process, it finally struck the Temple (Texas) blue-chipper.
Harrison-Pilot told On3 that his official visits loomed large in picking the final school.
“There were only one or two recruits, but even in the small group, they treated us like 30 people were there. It’s family down there. My dad played down there. That’s big for me. They’ve recruited me hard and Coach (Daikiel) Shorts — I love what he did with (Nathaniel) Dell and (Matt) Golden,” Harrison-Pilot told On3.
Harrison-Pilot has been a priority for Shorts for years and the relationship goes back even deeper. Harrison-Pilot’s father played at Houston and coached there.

The Cougars capitalized on those relationships, especially as crunch time set in.
“They know my dad is alumni and I grew up on campus,” Harrison-Pilot said. “I was there his freshman year of college and some coaches have been there since I was little, little, little. They took care of me; they’re like uncles to me, so I’m comfortable there. it’s home to me.”
Harrison-Pilot is the No. 124 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
