Charlotte (N.C.) Hough four-star wide receiver Tyran Evans has decommitted from Tennessee, he announced Wednesday night.

Evans had been committed to the Volunteers since January, when he chose them over offers from NC State, South Carolina, USF and a host of other schools.

“After a lot of prayer and thought, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Tennessee,” he wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to Coach Heupel, Coach Kelsey Pope, Coach Joey Halzle, and the entire Vol staff for believing in me. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and my family.”

Evans is fresh off official visits to Miami, NC State and Kentucky in successive weeks, and chose to reopen his recruitment for his scheduled trip back to Knoxville.

The Hurricanes in particular have made a big move in his recruitment coming off the recent trip to Coral Gables.

“Oh, I feel pretty good,” Evans told CaneSport of his feelings about Miami. “I love the school. It’s a lot to take in. … It’s one of my top, top, top schools.”

The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder is the No. 540 overall prospect and No. 82 receiver in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3, however, is much higher on him than other services. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 199 overall recruit and No. 29 wideout. As a junior, Evans was a major big-play threat, hauling in 36 receptions for 980 yards (27.2 YPC) and 14 touchdowns.
