San Diego Cathedral Catholic four-star athlete Honor Fa’alave-Johnson is only a sophomore, but the No. 19 prospect in the 2027 On3 Industry Ranking has already visited Oregon four times. He was back in Eugene this weekend and the Ducks are still the one others are chasing.

“Oregon is definitely setting the pace right now,” Fa’alave-Johnson told On3. “They are definitely one of the schools on the top of my list right now and this visit was great. It was packed with a lot of ballers, so it was great seeing a lot of them. As one of the younger guys over there, it was good to see them and just to pick their minds with questions to see what I should look for in a school. Overall it was a great visit and I can’t wait to come back out.”

The last time Fa’alave-Johnson was on campus was for the Washington game. The staff in Eugene has been recruiting him as hard as anyone and he felt like a top guy for Oregon on this visit.

“This visit definitely let me know that although I’m young, I’m a priority for the Oregon Ducks. Talking to coach Lanning, coach Stein, coach Samp (Ra’Shaad Samples), coach Lupoi, and coach Hamp (Chris Hampton). They made it clear to me that although I’m young they want it to be known they’re very interested in me.

“I play both ways and getting the chance to talk to coaches from both sides of the ball was amazing. They both let me understand that wherever side I choose to play on, they would still take me in. They let me know that their interest is definitely there.”

A lot stood out to Fa’alave-Johnson at Oregon

The feelings are mutual. Each visit gets “better and better” for the elite athlete in southern California. This visit presented a lot that he liked.

“My first highlight would be getting the chance to have a one-on-one talk with coach Lanning, and hearing what he likes about me. That was motivation to me to show how far my hard work has made me go so far, and that anything is possible.

“Another highlight would be going to watch the Oregon girls basketball game with all the coaches. I was sitting with coach Samples and I feel like we made a good connection. We had a great time watching there game.

“See the dorms caught my attention too. I’ve seen a few dorms and none compare to Oregon’s. It was very modernized and they were really nice. As a student on campus, I can definitely tell they get spoiled.”

Fa’alave-Johnson visited Miami last weekend and Oregon this weekend. He has not future visits set, but he is planning to get out to schools like Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and possibly Penn State soon.
