Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy linebacker Gavin Nix has flipped his commitment from Miami to Oregon.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Nix is ranked by the the On3 Industry as the nation’s No. 23 linebacker and No. 230 prospect overall. He becomes commit No. 17 for head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Nix visited Eugene in April and again for his official visit in June. He always loved the scheme fit at Oregon.

“Learning about Oregon’s defensive style and the coaches have some of the best resumes in the business,” Nix told Scoop Duck’s Justin Hopkins following his summer trip. Future position coach Brian Micahlowski has been heavily involved in recruiting Nix as well.

“Coach Lanning and B Mike are really good coaches with tons of experience with players like me. That really attracts me to Oregon. I trust them to develop me and help me pursue my dreams. They have such a great knowledge of the game.”

Prior to Nix’s commit, the Ducks had the On3 Industry’s No. 7 ranked recruiting class. With the other prospects still in play, they will have a chance to push into the top five for a second-straight cycle after finishing No. 3 in 2024.

Oregon heads into a big recruiting weekend with On300 tight ends Linkon Cure (Kansas State commit) and Andrew Olesh (Michigan commit) and in-state offensive lineman Zac Stascausky (Washington commit) all expected for the Washington game. Four-star edge rusher Tobi Haastrup also visits this weekend.

In addition to those four, Lanning and company will continue to try and flip five-star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele from California and they’re a finalists for five-star defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart.
